Palm Beach County Woodturners Show and Tell Gallery August 24, 2002 Prepared by George Z. Miller, Secretary We had excellent participation in our July Gallery with 16 presentations including those items in the Club Collaborative Event encompassing some 23 turned items. The following members were prize winners following the judging of the items in the Club Collaborative Event. There were nine winning entries, the members, category and item are listed below. I direct you to our web site to see the pictures of the winning entries. Frank Gaddoni Best Overall Hollow Form Barb Maras Best Novice Turner Two Piece Sculpture Al Gruntwagin Most Incomprehensible Pierced Candle Holder Francis Motes Most Imaginative Natural Edge Horned Bowl George Miller Most Practical Mahogany Bowl Carl Schneider Best Carving/Burning Pierced Hollow Form Brian Rosencrantz Best Paint/Decoration Pedestal Bowl Autumn Rosencrantz Most Difficult Painted Box Lou Forrler Best Transformation Lidded Bowl In addition to Collaborative Event winning entries the following members made presentations: Carl Schneider displayed his Basket Weave Mahogany Vessel finished with Danish Oil. John Buso brought an Ash Bowl and a goblet of Hornbeam. His choice of finish for the bowl was sandblasted and bleached. The goblet was unfinished. Lee Sky ( a guest from the Gold Coast Club) brought 2 boxes with lids made from Alexander Palm and finished with spray Polly. He also had some bottle stoppers and a hollow form turned from Oak and Bottlebrush. Gerhard Schwenke presented 3 hollow forms that he had finished with oil. Lou Forrler showed 2 Christmas Ornaments made from Oak with a Poly finish. My apologies to Richard Chessler because I didn't get a description of the item he brought. Carl Spinnler's piece was a small Rosewood Urn finished with MinWax. Dick Snayd explained how he prepared the turning blank for his segmented coaster holder. Three woods were used: Poplar, Maple and Mahogany and the piece was finished with a spray acrylic. Mike Mills showed his UFO Bottle Stopper Holder. Herb Cohen's turned bowl was decorated with a blackened rim Editorial Comment: Please complete the Monthly Gallery Sheet. Not all of the listed presenters completed the Monthly Gallery Sheet providing me information on their items. I hope that my notes were complete and that I did not miss anyone or fail to describe the items displayed accurately. |
