The Hollow Turning System From Dennis Stewart Hollow turning is a specialized application that requires tools capable of entering the vessel through a narrow opening to remove stock. Traditional home-made & "Ellsworth" style tools suffer from the torque exerted on the handle when a cutter engages the wood far from the centerline of the tool. The Stewart System frees the turner to explore hollow turning without the torque by the use of an off-set cutter on a bent shaft. Together with the unique armbrace handle, these tools will become a favorite for deep hollow vessels as well as removing stock from underneath overhanging bowl lips where bowl scrapers can not reach.
